Description
This artwork is a striking example of contemporary abstract expressionism. The painting captivates with its textural complexity and vibrant palette, merging bold colors like rich lime green, deep turquoise, and soft pastels. The surface is dominated by dynamic, thick impasto techniques, where the paint is applied in a tactile, sculptural manner, allowing it to rise off the canvas with a tangible presence. The central focus of the piece features an intricate interplay of hues, where vivid yellows and purples intermingle with darker shades, creating a sense of depth and movement. This area is accented by jagged, swirling strokes that suggest a sense of chaos and energy. The texture is so palpable that it invites viewers to imagine the sensation of each brushstroke. Bordering the central chaos are smoother areas of color, offering contrast with their gentler, sweeping motions. Here, the brushwork transitions into flatter applications, which help frame the tumultuous heart of the painting. This artwork masterfully combines color and texture to evoke emotion, embodying the raw essence of abstract expressionism. The juxtaposition of smooth and rough textures draws the eye across the canvas, providing a multifaceted visual experience that demands both contemplation and admiration.
Presentation
Natasha Zupan beautifully unites the old and new. A Yale-educated, internationally renowned artist, combines the innovation of her highly crafted technique with her wonder for tradition and the great Masters.
This body of work explores the manipulation of surface texture, light, and the interweaving of time. It is not about translating a world that already exists, but about an entrance into a different universe. A timeless, tactile world of sensation and overlapping memory.
Natasha shows annually throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, including multiple exhibitions at the Columbus Museum of Art, Georgia.
