Description
Acrylic painting on canvas.
"This work will be shipped rolled in a tube.
Poynder's method emphasizes gesture, line, color, and space. Physicality and action are key to her technique. To create her drawings and paintings she expands on the methods of the Abstract Expressionists, blending automatic drawing, performative gestures, and intuitive color choices to express the depths of her unconscious. She works with multiple layers and colors, creating works that are defined by their complexity and depth. Her textured and painterly surfaces blend areas of apparent randomness where the paint has been splashed or dripped with areas of precision, where the paint has been applied with a deliberate, trained hand."
Macha Poynder was born in 1962 in Moscow. She has lived and worked in Paris since 1982. She has a degree from the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (Paris).
Both in Moscow and Paris, she spent time with her teachers who transferred to her the knowledge, an eye, and roots. She is spending her life enriching them and stretching them through numerous voyages, in attempting to go beyond them, continuing her personal exploration towards that which never ceases to open up, towards the very sources of painting. Since 2011, she explores some new artistic fields around the light and the movement.
With exhibits in New York, San Francisco, Paris, and London, her works are included in the collections of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Musée National d'Art Moderne (Centre Georges Pompidou) in Paris, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the New York Public Library, the Rijksmuseum, as well as numerous private collections in the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, Russia.
