Description
Title: WINNER
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Technique: Palette Knife
Style: Impressionistic
Description:
"WINNER" is a dynamic oil painting on canvas that captures the thrilling moment of a horse and its rider in mid-jump. The artwork is done on a small canvas, yet it powerfully conveys the intensity and speed of the scene. Using a palette knife, I have applied vibrant oil colors in quick, expressive strokes to depict the fast movement and energy of the horse and rider as they leap from a height.
The impressionistic style of this painting allows for a loose, yet evocative representation of the subjects, focusing more on the overall feeling and motion rather than intricate details. The palette knife technique adds a textured quality to the work, enhancing the sense of movement and bringing a tactile dimension to the piece.
The composition is carefully crafted to highlight the dramatic jump, with the horse and rider captured in a moment of perfect balance and synergy. The swift, bold strokes of color create a sense of immediacy and excitement, making the viewer feel as if they are witnessing the jump in real-time.
"WINNER" celebrates the skill and courage of both the horse and the rider, portraying the exhilaration of the leap and the powerful bond between the two. The use of palette knives to apply the oil paint not only adds texture but also emphasizes the spontaneity and vigor of the moment, making this work a captivating addition to any collection.
Presentation
Anand Manchiraju is an Indian artist whose multidisciplinary practice blends painting, photography, and experimental techniques. Influenced by his artist father, he began painting in childhood and later studied at JNTU. His work explores themes including nature, spirituality, daily life, and the human figure. Anand employs oils and acrylics on canvas, as well as unconventional materials such as bromide paper and x-ray film, using photographic chemicals to develop what he terms “photo-paintings.” His style spans impressionistic and abstract modes. Over his career, he has produced thousands of artworks and held numerous solo exhibitions across India. He also served as President of the Andhra Academy of Arts for over 30 years, promoting artistic engagement in the region. Anand’s practice continues to evolve through constant experimentation with mediums and materials, reflecting his commitment to innovation and exploration across traditional and contemporary formats.
