Description
"Daydreamer" by Ritchelly Oliveira presents a striking portrayal of introspection and vulnerability against a backdrop of pure white. At the heart of the canvas stands a black man, enveloped in an almost self-embrace, suggesting a moment of deep contemplation or reverie.
The central figure's posture exudes a sense of introspection and introspective vulnerability, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of the human experience, particularly within the context of black identity.
In front of the man's chest, a majestic owl takes flight. For Oliveira, the owl symbolizes fragility, embodying the delicate nature of human existence. The absence of paws on the owl's feet serves as a poignant reminder of the perpetual flight and inability to touch solid ground.
"Daydreamer" invites viewers into a realm of introspection and vulnerability, where the human spirit grapples with its own fragilities and aspirations amidst the vast expanse of the unknown.
Presentation
Ritchelly Oliveira, visual artist, began his work in 2012, shortly after enrolling in visual arts at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), he found in the human figure a space to present his speech about what he understands most profoundly present in affective relationships. He talks about what he suspects to be love and, believing it to be a universal feeling. It proposes what is common to men, even knowing that this love brings something that is also individual and particular.
Believing that affective relationships are built from the individual and how their surroundings interfere with them, we try to rescue here the possibility of constructing discourses about love, especially black love. The importance of reflecting together on issues such as sexuality, emotional responsibility and colorism are necessary canons in this invitation to embrace the dangerous and exclusionary ideals of romantic love that circulate in our environments.
