Description

This vibrant and expressive work, created by emerging French artist Gaëlle Wagner, is a fascinating mix of techniques and influences. Using both acrylic and spray paint, Wagner creates a universe where the styles of Rothko, Basquiat, Pollock, Joan Mitchell and JonOne meet and complement each other.

The dominant colors of white, yellow, pink and intense blue, vibrant and luminous, run through the canvas, evoking the beauty of the ocean and the warmth of the sun. The meticulous work on color reveals a depth and intensity that captivates the eye. The touches of paint, sometimes dense, sometimes light, play on contrasts and superpositions, offering a dynamic and changing visual experience.

The composition of the work emphasizes verticals and horizontals, creating a structure that guides the viewer through the painting. The drips and splatters, characteristic of Pollock's style and JonOne's graffiti, bring spontaneity and raw energy, while the influences of Rothko and Mitchell are evident in saturated color areas and subtle transitions.

Inspired by nature, the ocean and sunlight, Gaëlle Wagner succeeds in capturing the essence of these elements in a lyrical and poetic abstraction. Each brushstroke and burst of color seems to vibrate with a life of its own, evoking the serenity of the waves and the enveloping warmth of the sun. The movement present in the work reflects the incessant flow of waves and the passage of time, recalling the timelessness of these natural elements which remain the same across generations.

“Waves and Sunshine" is more than just a painting; it is a window into moments of peace and contemplation, a visual reminder of precious moments spent by the ocean under sunny skies. The color gradients, from white to intense blue through yellow and pink, reinforce this idea of connection with nature and its wonders. This work invites one to explore a rich and complex inner landscape, where each nuance and texture tells a story of color, form and sensation, expressing a sense of calm and timeless happiness.

This painting is an invitation to relive and cherish memories of the ocean and sun, creating a powerful emotional connection with the viewer, while emphasizing the timelessness and constancy of natural elements.

Presentation

In the light of the Masters…

For lovers of art history, Gaëlle Wagner's work is part of the continuity of the great explorations of abstraction, from Monet to Klimt, from Pollock to Rothko. Nourished by this heritage, she develops a singular pictorial language, where composition, material, and color open up a renewed view of the sensible world.

In the Concrete Abstractions of Gaëlle Wagner, each work is born from a rigorously constructed composition made up of photographic fragments. This structure constitutes the foundation upon which the artist builds to develop her work. She progressively superimposes projections and runs to enrich the pictorial surface and gradually give it density. The artist conducts a deep reflection on pigment, color, light, and their interactions. Gravity and natural phenomena, which might seem to guide the painting, are integrated into this process without ever taking precedence over the artist's will.

Because, for Gaëlle Wagner, it is above all about building, through her technique, a sensory experience. The underlying structure of the work and its progressive enrichment become the guiding thread that accompanies the viewer towards a state of presence and attention.

Her approach is inspired by the way nature organizes its own forms. In a landscape, a rock, a sky, or a sea bottom, nothing exists in isolation: each element takes meaning through the relationships it maintains with the others. It is this logic of interdependence that the artist transposes into her painting. Colors are never thought of separately; they exist one for the other, building images that evoke horizons, mineral phenomena, or aquatic depths, without ever seeking to illustrate them, but rather to bring forth the memory, the impression, or the evocation.

Up close, the eye discovers the richness of the material, the nuances and interactions between the pigments. From a distance, these elements unite into a coherent image, where each part becomes indispensable to the balance of the whole.

This double reading is at the heart of her work. It invites the viewer to a sensory experience, between abstraction and reminiscence, where what nature reveals meets what it leaves suspended. The artist always works with purpose, guiding the gaze towards what she calls a Concrete Abstraction.

Presented in many personal and collective exhibitions, Gaëlle Wagner also creates live painting performances on monumental formats. Her works are now in private collections in France, Europe, and the United States.
