Description

This visually captivating and striking work of art is distinguished by a meticulous arrangement of organic shapes and geometric patterns in black and white, encapsulated within vivid colored outlines. Each shape, although similar in appearance, reveals a unique complexity through distinct patterns: rigorous diagonal lines, checkerboards, horizontal stripes and dynamic combinations of geometric shapes. The outlines of the shapes oscillate between shades of red, green, blue and yellow, establishing a vibrant contrast with the neutrality of the interior designs. This contrast of colors overflows with energy and inevitably draws the viewer's eye to every detail of the work. The background of the work is serenely neutral, composed of subtle shades of beige and pale gray, allowing the central shapes to stand out and dominate the composition. This choice of color palette brings a necessary balance to the work, which harmoniously combines complexity and simplicity. Here the artist demonstrates a spectacular mastery of the juxtaposition between order and chaos, creating a dynamic tension that captures and holds the viewer's attention. Each element, although singular, fits perfectly into the whole, evoking an organic, almost musical cohesion. In short, this work is an eloquent example of the artist's ingenuity and conceptual audacity. It invites the viewer to explore the subtleties of shapes and patterns, while admiring the vibrancy of the colors and the precision of the composition.

Presentation

In the tradition of great production designers (Alexandre Trauner, Ken Adam), Dean Tavoularis has discreetly established himself in the history of cinema, leaving his mark on around thirty films, including almost the entire work of Francis F. Coppola.
Trained at Disney (Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins), this son of Greek immigrants, settled in California, took drawing and architecture classes, before materializing the plans of Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde, Little Big Man) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Zabriskie Point). Each of his shoots requires long hours of location scouting and documentary research, his secret for defining the opaque atmosphere of The Godfather or the humidity of Apocalypse Now, the misty exteriors of Hammett by Wim Wenders or the coquettish interiors of Carnage, his last film, directed by Roman Polanski in 2011. Since then, in Paris where he lives with the actress Aurore Clément, Dean Tavoularis paints canvases which he exhibits alongside the storyboards of his brother Alex, the very ones which were used studying the settings of his films.
