Description
This intriguing work features a surreal and captivating composition. At the center of the image, an anthropomorphic figure stands, but his body is replaced by a massive rock fragment. This dark, precisely textured rock is irregularly carved, evoking a raw, natural force. A single, central, all-knowing eye is embedded in the stone, staring intently at the viewer. This piercing gaze seems to hold unfathomable wisdom, reinforcing the mystical aura of the work. The delicately detailed legs are clad in white stockings and classic black shoes, creating a striking contrast to the roughness of the rock. This juxtaposition of the organic and the inorganic raises questions about identity and perception. The red signature at the bottom right, discreet but present, provides a bright pop of color, reinforcing the uniqueness of the piece. This painting, with its aesthetic that is both enigmatic and poetic, encourages reflection and wonder, establishing a subtle dialogue between nature, observation and human existence.
Artist Statement: Secret Life of Rocks.
These are little observers - travelers moving through the universe over time unknown, shaped and colored by the sublime and unintelligible marvel of existence. Each Earthling is a portrait of a rock that I've collected from a place I've visited, or from a place a friend has visited.
They each come with their own name, serial number and a handmade certificate of authenticity.
Presentation
Allison M. Low is an artist based in Singapore, working primarily in the field of drawing and painting.
Most of her work explores in-between states such as indecision and contemplation.
Over the course of her practice, she has also worked on multi-media installations, murals, digital-projections, animations and sculptures.
She has taken part in almost 50 group shows internationally and has shown work in 2 Solo Exhibitions in Singapore and 1 solo Exhibition in Sydney, NSW.
She has produced work for institutions such as the Asian Civilisations Museum Sg, ArtScience Museum SG, NAC, Design Orchard, OH! Open House, Vogue Singapore among others.
Education :
Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from UNSW COFA, Majoring in Drawing and painting
Diploma in Visual Communications from Temasek Polytechnic, SG
