SERB1078 "Quiet Winter Evening" is a captivating oil painting that beautifully captures the serene and tranquil atmosphere of a winter night. The scene is set on a snow-covered street illuminated by the soft, diffused glow of streetlights. In the foreground, a lone tree stands gracefully, its branches bare and reaching out like delicate tendrils against the deep blue of the evening sky. The tree casts long shadows on the pristine snow, creating a striking contrast between light and dark. Nearby, a bent signpost also casts a long shadow, its presence adding a touch of realism to the tranquil scene. The background is a blend of cool and warm tones. On the left side, a tall building fades into the night, its windows glowing softly, adding to the sense of quietness. The light from the windows and the streetlights reflects off the snow, creating a mesmerizing interplay of purple, blue, and golden hues on the ground. Two figures walk down the snowy path, their silhouettes blending with the evening shadows. Their presence adds a touch of life and movement to the otherwise still scene. The footprints they leave behind indicate recent passage, adding depth and a narrative element to the painting. Further in the distance, more trees and buildings are visible, illuminated by the streetlights. The light creates a warm halo effect around the lamps, enhancing the cozy and peaceful ambiance of the winter evening. The artist's use of thick, impasto brushstrokes gives the painting a textured, almost tactile quality. The heavy application of paint creates a sense of depth and dimension, making the snow appear almost three-dimensional. The blending of colors is masterfully done, with the cool blues and purples of the shadows contrasting beautifully with the warm yellows and oranges of the artificial lights. "Quiet Winter Evening" is a serene and evocative depiction of a winter night, capturing the calm and peacefulness that comes with a blanket of fresh snow and the gentle glow of streetlights. The painting invites the viewer to step into this tranquil world and experience the quiet beauty of a winter evening.
Presentation
Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.
1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.
Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.
Since 2000 - Independent artist.
Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
