La nuit du lac Khazar, 2020

Lake, we loved each other in another existence,

When the sky was pulsating under your light veils,

When you had only one name, only one sweet silence,

When you surrounded me entirely with your changed edges.

Lake, we find ourselves, friends, alone in the world,

Where are these beautiful days? But the charm is the same,

And when you shimmer under the blond moon,

It is my young illusion that appears to me, I love it.

Oh moon, memory, sweet love of the poet,

Love of memories, memory of loves,

When will I see again, alas! the retreat of my hamlet,

The trees, the laurels, the walls, the slender towers?

Oh day gone too quickly, sparkling day,

Where a long dream ends and a long dream begins,

When will I be able to fix on an absent gaze,

The breath that steals and the smile that dreams?

Lake, ponds that the evening mists erase,

Lakes that I loved, forests crowned with rushes,

My heart is full of the cry of the great low voice

Wind dying among flowers like sounds.

Lake, I feel your wave throbbing, and my tears

Will flow like water that cries in the wind.

Lake, I will forget you in the distant arms

From this great sea that drowns you while roaring.

Lake, when I am far away, alone and without another voice

Than my sadness within me, than the wind on the shore,

We will both meet again at the end of our choices.

In the calm mirror of the night that is ending.
