Splash 38, 2024

Mark Hellbusch

"Splash 38" is a colorful, circular painting with a diameter of 120 cm that captivates with its lightness, movement, and vibrant complexity. The clear, sky-blue background conveys an open, almost weightless atmosphere—as if gazing into a boundless space. On this serene stage, a powerful yet playful composition unfolds, composed of luminous lines, color streams, and dynamic accents in green, yellow, orange, white, blue, red, and violet.

The colored lines flow across the canvas in flowing, rhythmic arcs and circular movements. An organic energy is sensed within them – as if a natural phenomenon were unfolding, such as wind, waves, or invisible fields. The use of acrylic and lacquer paints, as well as the applied techniques of dripping, throwing, and dragging, enable an extraordinary complexity: some lines are wafer-thin and transparent, others rich, glossy, or broken.

Characteristic of this work—as of the entire series—is the deliberate use of the round canvas. This circular form allows for no corners, no classical boundaries—it guides the gaze into movement, allowing it to circle, move on, and linger. Spontaneity merges with composition, dynamism with stillness. It is a work that, despite its vitality, exudes a certain serenity—a harmonious tension that fascinates.

This painting is ideal for modern spaces where art not only decorates but also inspires. It brings light, movement, and a special emotional openness to any setting—be it private, public, or institutional. It's not a loud entrance, but a luminous, vibrant impulse.
