Deux ours, 2025

Hervé Maury

Hervé Maury paints animals as one paints landscapes or portraits, "living natures" that are funny and seductive in their apparent simplicity. Pigments and other materials blend together, movements and reliefs burst forth, capturing a special moment on each canvas. The artist transforms his enchanted bestiary into a family complicit in an everyday life in search of exoticism and absolute poetry. This painting depicts two stylized bears, their imposing silhouettes occupying the entire surface. Their texture is reminiscent of an oil painting, complex and rich, with warm tones of brown and ochre. The sky-blue background creates a striking contrast, highlighting their massive stature. The bears' simplified, almost caricature-like features give the work an impression of naiveté, highlighting the artist's playful approach. The bears' large, expressive eyes add an almost human dimension, arousing immediate curiosity. The two figures are close together and facing outward, suggesting an implicit connection or complicity. This modern art plays with the traditional conventions of animal representations, offering an original and intriguing interpretation. The work perfectly captures the balance between humor and introspection, a bold characteristic that leaves a lasting impact.
