The Oil painting Cardboard titled “City sailboats" transports the viewer into an atmospheric urban harbor, where the quiet majesty of old architecture meets the gentle rhythm of the water. Executed with rich, expressive brushwork and a palette that merges earthy tones with luminous highlights, the work embodies both serenity and grandeur, offering a visual meditation on the relationship between human structures and natural elements. The composition is anchored by the imposing building on the right, painted in warm shades of ochre, sienna, and muted brown. Its towering form rises confidently, with sharp angles and vertical lines that capture the strength and endurance of urban architecture. Subtle details—arched windows, small balconies, and soft touches of light—lend the structure a lived-in quality, suggesting centuries of history held within its walls. The building stands like a sentinel at the water's edge, its reflection melting into the greenish surface below. Stretching across the middle and left of the painting, a cluster of smaller structures with pointed roofs and spires forms a layered cityscape. The silhouettes of domes and bell towers punctuate the skyline, softened by the hazy golden atmosphere that permeates the entire work. The painter skillfully bathes these buildings in a glow that feels both earthly and timeless, merging architectural solidity with ethereal light. Above them, seagulls circle gracefully, their presence filling the sky with life and movement, while emphasizing the city's connection to the sea. The harbor itself becomes the focal point of activity and reflection. At the water's edge, several sailboats and small vessels are depicted with bold, textured strokes, their hulls glowing in shades of crimson, dark brown, and soft beige. Despite the compact space, each boat feels distinct, its form carefully rendered to suggest both sturdiness and elegance. Some are moored quietly, while others seem prepared for departure, their sails hinted at by angular brushstrokes reaching into the air. The boats are not just decorative elements—they embody the rhythm of maritime life, evoking both trade and travel, leisure and labor.
