The Oil painting Cardboard titled “City on the water" captures a vivid and atmospheric vision of a harbor town where life is deeply tied to the sea. The canvas is alive with color and movement, depicting a cluster of boats moored near the dock, their reflections shimmering across the surface of the water under a moody sky. The painter uses bold, impressionistic brushstrokes to convey not only the visual elements but also the very spirit of a town where the rhythm of life is defined by tides, fishing, and the presence of the sea. The rich palette of deep blues, emerald greens, and fiery reds enhances the contrast between water, vessels, and the sturdy architecture of the waterfront buildings. Dominating the foreground, fishing boats painted in strong tones of red and turquoise seem to float with quiet pride, their hulls illuminated by subtle highlights of white and orange. The boats are detailed with ropes, buoys, and masts that reach upward, their vertical lines breaking the horizontal calm of the water. Their presence is not static but alive, as though waiting to depart for the next voyage. Around them, the water shimmers in rich shades of blue and green, reflecting not only the vessels but also the colors of the surrounding buildings. The ripples and strokes in the water create a rhythmic effect, suggesting both movement and tranquility, reminding the viewer of the eternal dialogue between man and sea. Behind the boats, the architecture of the town rises, defined by large structures with steep, slanted roofs painted in warm reds and earthy browns. These buildings anchor the scene with a sense of permanence, contrasting the fluidity of the water and the mobility of the boats. The roofs, with their textured, expressive brushwork, glow with vitality, while the darker shades beneath them suggest depth and shadow. The buildings, though roughly suggested, convey the essence of a working harbor—practical, sturdy, and filled with life. This sense of place draws the viewer into the environment, evoking the smell of salt air, the creak of wooden docks, and the distant murmur of conversations carried over water.
