The Oil painting Cardboard titled "City with boats" captures the vibrant spirit of a Mediterranean or Southern European harbor city, where colorful facades meet the reflective waters of a calm canal. The composition immediately draws the eye to the juxtaposition of architectural elegance and lively waterfront life. With bold, expressive brushstrokes and a luminous palette dominated by warm oranges, yellows, terracottas, and pinks, the painting celebrates the warmth of sunlit buildings and their interplay with the cool greens and blues of water and sky. In the foreground, the canal reflects the city's essence, its surface rippling with deep greens, aquamarine highlights, and hints of shadow from the moored boat. The boat itself, painted in earthy browns and reds, appears modest yet full of life, its ropes and equipment carefully suggested through decisive strokes. It anchors the scene in human activity, serving as a reminder of the city's connection to both commerce and leisure. The water becomes not just a reflective surface but a narrative element that ties the urban structures to their maritime heritage. The middle ground features a stone embankment that supports the daily rhythm of urban life. To the left, green umbrellas shade a small café terrace, where groups of figures gather in casual conversation or pause for rest. These figures are painted with quick yet deliberate gestures, their forms simplified but full of vitality. Their presence infuses the scene with a sense of community and conviviality, suggesting that this is not just a cityscape but a lived environment where stories unfold daily. Dominating the background are the tall, colorful facades of historic buildings, rendered with broad, textured strokes. Their walls glow in rich shades of golden yellow, burnt orange, and warm pink, their plastered surfaces capturing the warmth of the afternoon sun. Windows framed in dark blues, greens, and whites punctuate the facades, while intricate details like arched doorways and decorative trim are hinted at with expressive dabs of paint. The artist avoids overly precise rendering, instead using bold patches of color and texture to suggest architectural richness. A striking feature is the arched doorway at the center, adorned with stained-glass-like detail that adds a jewel-like quality and suggests a blend of history and artistry within the urban fabric.
