Description
This artwork presents a striking portrayal of Cold War era political conflict, centred on a now-abandoned East German guard tower on Ackerstrasse, Berlin. The tower's stark, angular form contrasts vividly with the expansive azure sky, creating a powerful visual tension. The bold colour of the structure's upper section captures the eye and suggests a sense of vigilance. Adjacent to the tower, a more modern reflective surface representing the original wall echoes its presence, adding depth and dimension to the composition. The play of light and shadow across the surfaces enriches the scene, while the minimalist style imbues it with a sense of modernity and abstraction. The artwork expertly balances colour and form, inviting viewers to contemplate the intersection between human-made structures and the natural world. This piece captivates through its simplicity and bold use of color, embodying a silent dialogue between man and environment.
Presentation
From an early age, I was drawn to image creation — to the way artists could conjure life, light, and form from a blank surface. Drawing and painting fascinated me not only as means of representation, but as ways of seeing: understanding how light defines shape, how shadow suggests depth, and how two dimensions can hold the illusion of three.
Photography soon joined painting as a lifelong companion. From my first self-processed black-and-white prints to the sophistication of contemporary digital techniques, I've always been compelled to capture the world through the lens — exploring texture, atmosphere, and the quiet narratives of everyday life.
I trained initially at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, where I earned a BA (Hons) in Typography & Graphic Communication. This instilled a deep respect for visual structure, clarity, and meaning — principles that continue to inform my artistic practice. More recently I have completed a Graduate Diploma in Psychology at the University of Sydney, an experience that expanded my understanding of perception, behaviour, and the human experience — insights that naturally find expression and continue to inform both my teaching and creative work.
Over the course of my career, I have established and directed creative studios in London, Luxembourg, Málaga, Berlin, and Sydney, and held senior roles in leading design practices and advertising agencies. A true digital dinosaur, I was appointed Creative Director for Europe's first online service, where I helped pioneer the intersection of design and emerging digital technology at a pivotal moment in visual communication.
In parallel, I've taught design at universities and art schools in Sydney and southern Spain, focusing on sustainable design thinking, human-centred design, and the development of successful creative practice.
Today, with more time to devote to personal projects, I have returned full circle to my first love — painting and drawing. This renewed focus reconnects me with the timeless pleasures of observation and expression: translating what I see and feel into line, tone, and colour.
I live a creative and balanced life with my family who provide constant inspiration, perspective, and humour.
