Cosmos from the garden, 2025

Rachael Dalzell

The artist is enjoing a free use of paint and vibrant colour with this uplifting portrayal of the English flower.

Rachael's works on paper are particularly organic.  Diluted paint is allowed to migrate on a damp surface, sticks are used to daub and scratch,  heavier splatters are dropped, lines are augmented until a balance is reached.  The works are painted on Bockingford 300gsm paper.

The painting bursts with vibrant, abstract floral elements, skillfully blending soft pastel hues with vivid splashes of color. Dominated by a large, ethereal pink bloom at its center, the painting draws immediate attention with its delicate yet bold presence. Surrounding this focal point are bursts of deep magenta and subtle green, seamlessly integrated to create a harmonious yet dynamic visual narrative. Delicate strokes suggest stems and leaves, adding an organic rhythm that guides the eye across the canvas. Specks of yellow punctuate the composition, infusing energy and warmth. The artist's technique demonstrates a mastery of layering and texture, evoking a sense of depth and movement. This piece uniquely captures the essence of a lush garden swaying in a gentle breeze, offering a modern, impressionistic take on nature's beauty.

Dalzell's work is as much about mood as it is of place.  Many of her paintings are based on the area where she lives in Norfolk. They celebrate the joy of light and colour in nature as well as the shape of the landscape. She describes her paintings as a 'snapshot' both visually and emotionally of a place.
