Description
This painting is a quiet conversation with water.
The sea here is not dramatic — it breathes slowly, generously, allowing stones, grasses, and light to coexist in a gentle balance. Layers of blue, turquoise, and soft violet dissolve into one another, creating a sense of depth that feels both physical and emotional.
Living close to the sea, I return to water as a place of calm and restoration. It is where movement becomes meditation, where time softens, and thoughts grow quieter. The water in this painting holds that feeling — a space of inner freedom, where the mind can drift and rest.
The stones anchor the composition like memories, while the shimmering surface reflects constant change. This painting is not about a specific shoreline, but about a state of being — a moment of stillness, presence, and trust in the natural rhythm of life.
The artwork comes ready for display. The painted sides make it suitable for hanging with or without a frame. A varnish finish provides additional protection and helps maintain the richness of the colors over time.
This artwork has been presented at the following exhibitions:
• The Great Spring Art Exhibition, BiArt Gallery, BSA, Riga, Latvia, 2025
• Riga Furniture & Interior 2025, Pop-up exhibition “ARTIST RUNWAY", BT1, Kipsala, Riga, Latvia
Presentation
Maria Matveyeva is a professional artist with bachelor's degree of Arts and master's degree of Arts, Education and Psychology.
From early childhood, Maria was in love with drawing and painting, and she has refined her artistic skill through dedicated study.
Maria's daily work has always been related to art, and she has worked in such different areas as interior decorator and miniature painting. Her paintings range from large-format canvasses to small, nuanced artworks.
The artist works in various techniques, including pastel drawing, watercolour and tempera, but her favourite is oil painting technique.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
I believe that the world already is full of trouble and of things that trigger negative emotions, so art should be full of light and positivity, it should inspire the person who looks at it, it should catch the viewer's fantasy, it should emanate goodness.
I believe that an artist, like a musician, can change the viewer's mood to make it better.
I love people and nature. I love painting them, love the play of light and darkness, and the lively playing of colours.
Mostly I paint using oil colours and watercolour. After learning the technique for painting icons, I fell in love with painting in layers.
Working in oil, I like to combine transparency with applying paint in dense brush strokes. This enables me to create depth and softness, to create a new dimension.
