Description
This vibrant artwork captures a dynamic tropical landscape where nature and everyday objects meet harmoniously. Slender palm trees dominate the scene, their thin trunks reaching towards a brilliant blue sky. The ground, adorned with yellow geometric patterns, contrasts with the lush green of the surrounding plants. Incongruous elements such as pieces of bread, a metal box, and the silhouette of a bird create an intriguing interplay between reality and abstraction. The subtle addition of a starfish and a blue fan evokes a carefree, beachy atmosphere. Black lines traversing the composition lend structure and depth to the whole. Revealing a bold exploration of textures and forms, this painting captivates the eye with its skillful blend of vibrancy and whimsy.
Presentation
Alec Cumming graduated in 2007 from Norwich University of the Arts with a degree in Fine Art. He has enjoyed success with a number of major solo shows in London, throughout the UK and abroad. The artist works between studios in Norwich and Delhi.
In 2012, he was the youngest artist to have a solo exhibition with the British Council in India. At the India Art Fair 2016, he was selected as 'the one to watch' by the art critics alongside G R Iranna and Francesco Clemente. In 2017, Alec was selected for a Arts Council funded Residency with Dyad Creative in conjunction with Museums in India and the UK; in this space he made his monumental painting project 'Dialogues with India', a series of 4m long mural works considering material memory. In 2018, Alec will be showcasing some of this work in LA. Alec's work is held in private, public and corporate collections world-wide.
