Description
This artwork is a narrative painting rooted in the agrarian reality of Paratwada, where smallholder farmers practice polyculture to maximize the yield of their limited land. At the center, an orange orchid stands beside a cotton field, symbolizing resilience, hope, and the fragile balance of survival. This traditional farming practice testifies to the farmers' expertise, but it is subject to constant social and financial pressure. The painting reveals the harsh reality of land being sold due to economic hardship and unavoidable social obligations, such as marrying off a daughter. A modest wedding mandap, typical of the lower middle class, appears in the background, representing responsibility and sacrifice. A small green mandala symbolizes life, continuity, and the fading harmony with nature. Beside it, a plot of land sold to a property developer, depicted as a construction site, illustrates the slow disappearance of agricultural identity. Together, these visual elements narrate the social struggle of smallholder farmers, exposing the political issues surrounding land, forced commerce, and the emotional cost of development.
