Description

OK Dinghy Class Championships captures the intensity of a regatta where precision, responsiveness, and physical commitment are crucial. The artwork depicts an OK Dinghy dinghy in the midst of a maneuver. In the foreground, the red hull emerges forcefully, seemingly bursting from the pictorial space. The skipper, having just rounded the buoy, hikes out to stabilize his boat amidst a spray. In the background, another competitor prepares to follow the same trajectory. Created in 2022, this 40 × 80 cm work combines oil paint, paper collage, and sand on linen canvas. The horizontal format accentuates the sensation of speed and tension, reinforcing the dynamism of the scene. The oil paint, applied transparently and with light overlays, lends depth and fluidity to the forms. The dense, vibrant red hull serves as a powerful visual anchor within a composition dominated by light tones and nuanced grays. The tissue paper collage, used for the sails, lends an organic and sensitive texture, suggesting the fabric's tension under the pressure of the wind. Simultaneously, the sand collage interventions introduce a graphic and abstract dimension: broad gestures traverse the surface, materializing the breath of the wind, the swell, and the movement of the water. Between precise representation and gestural writing, OK Dinghy Class Championships conveys the raw energy of the race while maintaining a refined aesthetic. The work evokes a suspended moment where strategy and technical mastery are inscribed in the constant dialogue between the sailor and the elements.

Presentation

Painting is a material and spiritual journey that I take around my first passions, mountains, water, sailing, sea and music. Since my beginnings in 1974, I have trained with other painters. First very inspired by the vibration of colors in the Impressionists and the Fauvists, I turned in the 80s to watercolor, whose transparencies I appreciate.

Finally around the 2000s, I discovered contemporary painting and mixed techniques opening up the field of possibilities. Indeed, by preparing my paintings with collages of paper and sand, I create textures where the paint, very diluted in the manner of watercolors, reacts by drainage or by diffusion to leave its own mark. By the gesture, I print the energies. By the softness of the transparencies and the relationship to emptiness, I register my emotions. Each painting thus invites to a poetic journey.
