Description
In this work, the Fraserburgh lighthouse is not simply depicted: it is put to the test. Standing at the end of the jetty, it confronts a churning sea whose waves invade almost the entire surface of the painting. The water, vast and powerful, seems to sweep across the pictorial space, relegating the human-made structure to a position of resistance. The composition accentuates this tension. The white, shifting mass of the wave rises diagonally, while the lighthouse, vertical and compact, opposes it with its stability. This confrontation structures the work: movement versus anchorage, fluidity versus permanence. The handling of materials reinforces this confrontation. The sand incorporated into the paint gives density and roughness to the wave, conveying the impact of the water against the stone. The paper collage adds relief and vibrancy to the surface of the wall and the sky, creating an atmosphere charged with sea spray and wind. Oil glazes unify the whole in a mineral and marine palette, dominated by whites, grays, and ochres. Through this isolated lighthouse facing the swell, Alain explores the human spirit in the face of the power of natural forces. The structure embodies the will to endure, to illuminate, and to persist, despite the repeated assault of the elements. It is not a descriptive landscape, but a tense dialogue between the sea and that which attempts to resist it.

Presentation

Painting is a material and spiritual journey that I take around my first passions, mountains, water, sailing, sea and music. Since my beginnings in 1974, I have trained with other painters. First very inspired by the vibration of colors in the Impressionists and the Fauvists, I turned in the 80s to watercolor, whose transparencies I appreciate.

Finally around the 2000s, I discovered contemporary painting and mixed techniques opening up the field of possibilities. Indeed, by preparing my paintings with collages of paper and sand, I create textures where the paint, very diluted in the manner of watercolors, reacts by drainage or by diffusion to leave its own mark. By the gesture, I print the energies. By the softness of the transparencies and the relationship to emptiness, I register my emotions. Each painting thus invites to a poetic journey.
