Description
In Roxane, the sailboat unfolds in an almost minimalist space, where the essence is concentrated in the tension of the sails and the thrust of the hull. The two full-length gaff sails capture the wind with amplitude. Their surface, worked in transparency and texture, reveals internal lines and pictorial fissures that evoke both the fragility of the fabric and the invisible force that stretches them. The vertical composition (40 x 80 cm) accentuates the ascent of the masts and the upward thrust. Broad, curved gestures traverse the space, suggesting the trajectories of the wind and inscribing the boat within a movement larger than itself. The hull, darker and more compact, stabilizes the whole and anchors the scene to a barely suggested waterline. The collage work and the integration of materials give the sails a vibrant density. The muted hues—ochres, grays, beiges—unify the atmosphere in a soft yet intense light. Nothing is anecdotal: the crew is reduced to minimal presence, almost mere silhouettes, to give full rein to the dialogue between the ship and the elements. Through this sailboat carried by the wind, Alain explores the human impulse in the face of the power of natural forces. Roxane does not represent a simple, peaceful voyage: it embodies this will to move forward, to capture invisible energy and transform it into movement. The boat thus becomes the embodiment of a fragile yet determined balance between control and surrender.

Presentation

Painting is a material and spiritual journey that I take around my first passions, mountains, water, sailing, sea and music. Since my beginnings in 1974, I have trained with other painters. First very inspired by the vibration of colors in the Impressionists and the Fauvists, I turned in the 80s to watercolor, whose transparencies I appreciate.

Finally around the 2000s, I discovered contemporary painting and mixed techniques opening up the field of possibilities. Indeed, by preparing my paintings with collages of paper and sand, I create textures where the paint, very diluted in the manner of watercolors, reacts by drainage or by diffusion to leave its own mark. By the gesture, I print the energies. By the softness of the transparencies and the relationship to emptiness, I register my emotions. Each painting thus invites to a poetic journey.
