Description
This captivating artwork presents a vivid coastal scene with a masterful blend of watercolor techniques. The primary focus is a weathered boat, tethered on a sandy foreground, leading the viewer's eye toward the background—a series of historic, domed buildings. These structures, painted with a palette of creams and subtle blues, seem to bask in sunlight, casting soft shadows that enhance the scene's depth. The artist employs loose brushstrokes that suggest movement, giving life to the still scene. The sky's deep, clear blue contrasts with the sunlit architecture, while splashes of red and orange hint at activity and life. The composition's dynamic perspective captures the essence of a tranquil seaside village, evoking a sense of nostalgia and serenity. This piece is a testament to the artist's skill in conveying atmosphere and timeless beauty through color and form.
Presentation
Michael Hill an artist from Plymouth has always had a love of drawing and a fascination for the painted image as far back as he can remember. After leaving school he studied art and graphic design, but quickly became aware that illustration and fine arts were the subjects he wanted to pursue. Shortly after leaving college he worked for some years as a freelance illustrator before taking up painting full time.
My paintings have become more abstract of late but it is important to me to convey a strong sense of place together with an air of mystery. Coming from fragments of memory, the painting surface is built up through layers of colour, sometimes leaving previous areas of paint exposed, maybe to indicate the history of the work.
