Oil painting On Top of a Snowy Mountain Tatyana Derdey presents a dramatic high-altitude landscape where the quiet power of nature is captured with striking artistic sensitivity. The artist masterfully depicts a snow-covered mountain ridge emerging beneath a deep, stormy sky, creating a strong sense of height, solitude, and atmosphere. Derdey's confident brushwork and layered oil technique bring remarkable texture to the surface of the painting. The sharp contrast between luminous snow and dark blue clouds emphasizes the rugged form of the mountain, while subtle tonal variations create depth and movement across the landscape. Each brushstroke reveals the artist's skilled control of light, shadow, and composition. Through expressive painterly technique and a refined understanding of natural forms, Tatyana Derdey transforms this mountain scene into a powerful and atmospheric landscape that highlights the strength and beauty of the alpine environment.
Presentation
For this artist, painting is a way of preserving the beauty of nature exactly as she feels it. She works in the academic style because it allows her to stay true to the landscape — to its light, mood, harmony, and quiet perfection. Her goal is not to change nature, but to capture it with sincerity and care.
“I work in the academic manner because this is how I see and feel the landscape. I am drawn to revealing the beauty of nature as it truly exists, without altering it, because it is already perfect in its own way. My goal is to bring the image as close as possible to reality and to preserve the authenticity of what I see.
From childhood, I was surrounded by landscape painters who worked in the academic tradition. I also grew up in a place of remarkable natural beauty, where I never felt the need to change anything — only to capture and convey it. This shaped both my perception of the world and my artistic path.
I believe there have always been, and always will be, artists who seek new and experimental forms, as well as those who strive to reflect nature truthfully and objectively. I see myself as one of the latter.”
