Description
Fernando Alday was attracted to the spiritual and abstract side of life from an early age. His father was a dentist and an art dealer, and he had a collection of manuscripts, including work by the poet Arthur Rimbaud, which had a profound influence on him. At five, he became interested in calligraphy and was fascinated by sepia ink. He grew up surrounded by books, he would brush off the dust, arrange them by colour, and spend hours absorbed in their texture and context. Old paper and medieval ink are fundamental to Alday's compositions. The process begins with an almost archaeological search for paper, colour, and textures. The artist is passionate about paper and its uses as a material to depict the passing of time and convey the ever present and fleeting nature of life's cycle.

“... He always finds a link between the material and the idea, and this relationship established involves also the observer, which gradually discovers the creation. "It is a succession of sensations which binds the impression of being located on the main wall of a demolished building. BIOGRAPHY
Santiago de Chile, 1959
Fernando Alday was born in Santiago de Chile in 1959 and he has lived in Barcelona during 20 years. He has had a long artistic career with exhibitions in Europe and Unit States. He has given exhibitions in galleries all around the country and abroad.
Of special importance is the exhibition he gave in 2000 at the Malborough Gallery in Santiago de Chile and the exhibitions at the Barcelona Artur Ramon Galley and Jordi Barnadas. He has also participated at European Art Fairs like St'art (Strasburg) and Miart (Milan), Art Karlsruhe (Germany), Art Bodensee ( Austria) , Art Fair Cologne (Germany)…
Through collages, Fernando Alday seeks to show the passing of time. The old documents and personal letters that he uses to expressthe importance of history in his work. Private and small stories become a part of the great art history. Fernando Alday conscientiously uses this precious material and creates contemporary works of art, with strong symbolic components.
