Born in 1972 in Cambrai, France, Vincent Ruffin lives and works in La Rochelle.

His style of painting is genereous and sensual, his powerful landscapes and portraits touch the viewer. The paint he displays on the canvases is thick, there is incredible richness in the materials he uses, the colors he chooses, as if he was modeling his pigments and his points of view that give intensity to the perspective, with abyssal depths. Armed with a solid technique, he searches for new narrative styles and diversity in his work.

Vincent Ruffin treats the painting as a sculpture that he “carves”; he works on its surface, its texture and its feel. In his paintings, an arid plain becomes a vertiginous landscape and a smooth face – a relief in which capricious streams have been chiseled. Each subject has fleeting contours that let raw emotion emerge, the model’s history transpire; the history we believe we can guess, the one we know, the one we dream of. Colors are vibrating: saturated, modeled, cut raw. The curves flow slowly, setting all the grace and the fragility of the moment free for us to admire.
