Description
Feeling that "opposites" have been exacerbated throughout the West, I understood that the strong contrast is an aesthetic that corresponds to the drama of our time of violence and extremes. With this work, I want to question current events by giving a new meaning to a classic, which has practically the same aesthetic. That's why my version of David with the head of Goliath is called Tarantulas' morality, which refers to the chapter On Tarantulas … from the book Thus Spoke Zarathustra by the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. This text criticizes those who demand equality but are actually disguised "tarantulas" who only want revenge and power. In my interpretation, this is practically the opposite of the classic illustration that depicted "the triumph of good over evil." According to Nietzsche, all of these (good, humility, etc.) are names that the weak give to their thirst for revenge. My work is an affirmation of reality as dialectic.
Presentation
Ezequiel Martínez Llaser is an artist with an extensive international career. His works are included in various private collections across Europe. Born in Argentina in 1981, he lives and works between Paris and Barcelona.
He studied art and philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires and Paris VIII, and has completed several workshops and artist residencies with prominent figures in today's contemporary art scene. Coming from a family of photographers, he grew increasingly drawn to the visual arts as a medium to express his philosophical inquiries.
His work—primarily large-scale surrealist oil paintings—is a deconstruction of reality and the dominant values of modern society. His latest series, “Fragmentation et Totalité," questions Western rationalism through vitalist philosophical concepts (Nietzsche and Bergson), drawing influence from painters such as Dalí and Goya.
He has held major exhibitions in Buenos Aires, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. In 2019, he participated in the Florence Biennale. Since 2022, his work has been on display at the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, and in recent years, his pieces have been selected for exhibitions throughout Europe.
