Description
“Untitled 4-5-19" presents a textured and expressive representation of a human face, rendered in an abstract style. Montse Valdés uses a palette of earthy browns and vibrant yellows, blending them with strokes of white and hints of orange, creating an intriguing interplay of light and shadow. The face emerges from the canvas, formed from layers of paint, conveying depth and emotion. The rough application of pigments contributes to a sense of rawness and vitality, while the obscured gaze hints at introspection. Unique in its application, the texture adds a tactile dimension that invites closer inspection, challenging the viewer to explore the interplay between form and emotion. This piece stands out for its ability to evoke a complex narrative through minimalist abstraction, making it a compelling study of the human condition.
Painting has long been Montse Valdés' passion. It has taken her on an enquiring journey to the deepest depths of humanity, to find the essence of 'us'. As she says, to the core of human beings. The power of her work is its simplicity, the stripping back, cutting through 'the noise' to reach the soul that illuminates her canvases. Thickly textured pastel oils, layered and dotted, converge to portray ethereal figures and serenely powerful portraits – peaceful and harmonious. Having studied the technique of oil painting at several important academies in Barcelona (1981-84) and later at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris (1985-88), Valdés has since built a solid career in art. With a long list of solo and group shows behind her and works in important public and private collections, this internationally recognised Barcelona based artist has exhibited worldwide with Villa del Arte Galleries for over two decades
Presentation
The artist remembers drawing from an early age, after which she hesitated for a short period with the world of theater. It was at age 21 that she was being revealed that painting was the artistic medium through which she wanted to express herself.
Montse Valdés recreates herself (as she says) in an ideal world where the mind is peaceful and silent and where all voices are integrated in one melody. The person can then be free of thoughts, loving and creative. This is the world the artist wants to see and inhabit and through her paintings she tries to transmit a pacific world, where every human being is at Peace.
