Choosing Yourself, 2026

Natalia Yangalycheva

This work explores a contemporary understanding of inner freedom—the moment when a person stops seeking validation from the outside world and begins to live in harmony with their own values. The artist reflects on the idea that confidence is not built through approval or comparison, but through the courage to remain authentic.

At its core, the painting is about personal choice. Every life is shaped by countless decisions, both significant and seemingly ordinary, that gradually define who we become. True maturity emerges when we no longer measure ourselves against others and instead embrace our own path as something unique, worthy, and complete.

Rather than celebrating constant action, the artist suggests that strength can also be found in stillness. The ability to pause, listen inwardly, and maintain emotional balance amidst the pace and expectations of contemporary life becomes an act of quiet resilience. It is a reflection on dignity, independence, and the freedom to move through life according to one's own rhythm.

Choosing Yourself invites viewers to consider that genuine freedom begins with an internal decision—to be honest with oneself. From that place grows a lasting sense of confidence, stability, and peace that is not dependent on external circumstances.
