Egor Plotnikov   New & remarkable Artists

With the series Fragment of sky, Egor Plotnikov continues his exploration of the landscape as a mental and narrative space, focusing on what usually remains peripheral or out of frame. These small paintings function as detached fragments of a whole that is absent: isolated, silent pieces of sky that seem to belong to a larger narrative of which the essential escapes us.

The clouds, the variations of light, and the atmospheric transformations are painted with a deliberate economy of means. The sky is never spectacular; it is unstable, changing, sometimes almost anonymous. Each fragment acts as a trace, a visual clue that invites the viewer to mentally reconstruct the missing landscape. Rather than delivering a complete image, the work opens a space for projection, based on deduction and imagination.

The reduced formats, sometimes circular, reinforce this impression of extraction, as if the sky were observed through an opening, a memory, or a suspended moment. Plotnikov does not represent the landscape in its entirety, but what remains once the narrative is fragmented: an atmosphere, a color, a persistent impression.
