Description
This portrait unfolds with raw spontaneity. The artist uses acrylic to translate an inner vision. The face emerges from an interweaving of gray and white lines. The contours are blurred. The material accumulates to create a tangible relief.
The gaze, highlighted by golden touches, captures the light. It brings a mysterious dimension to the whole. The contrast is marked by a solar yellow at the bottom of the composition. This color illuminates the lower part of the face and energizes the palette.
The background mixes shades of green and blue. These hues evoke a dreamlike environment. The technique favors superposition and free gesture. Each brushstroke reveals a raw emotion. The composition plays on the balance between figuration and abstraction. The final result leaves room for the viewer's personal interpretation. The work is distinguished by the intensity of its chromatic contrasts and the thickness of its texture.
Presentation
Sitelle's self-taught pictorial practice flourishes through a rich and fertile artistic approach. It combines visual sensitivity – via photographic practice, in particular – and the knowledge and fluidity of the performed body through theatre, dance theatre, stage direction, and reading aloud. Haunted by words, stories, and their staging, the artist's pictorial works emerge as wonderful cinematographic shots – close-ups, from which a suggested and enigmatic off-screen space emanates. The narration that colours all of Sitelle's work might also be that which we internalise, that which we tell ourselves. This internalising of story, the thrall of words, and the exploration they lead to, have long taken symbolically and emotionally charged abstract forms in the artist's paintings. Gradually, with incontestable maturity, they crystallise into human figures rooted within increasingly familiar landscapes.
