Citrus in bloom, 2026

Hela

A burst of sunlight captures the essence of a summer morning. This oil and pastel composition celebrates the beauty of simple pleasures. A white spherical vase anchors the scene. It holds a dense arrangement of yellow blooms and deep blue accents. Lavender sprigs reach upward. They add a rhythmic verticality to the bouquet.
The artist applies color with a bold and confident hand. Thick textures create a tactile surface. Bright yellow lemons nestle among the petals. Some spill over the edge. One rests solitary on the olive-green surface. The pale blue background provides a cool contrast. It allows the warmth of the flora to radiate.
The composition reflects a background in design. Every shape is intentional. The balance between the organic curves of the fruit and the structured arrangement of the flowers feels effortless. This artwork transforms a domestic moment into a joyful visual statement. It blends a modern sensibility with a timeless floral tradition. The play of light and saturated hues evokes a sense of leisure and quiet sophistication. Focus remains on the vivid interplay of primary colors and soft pastel strokes.

Alongside her still lifes, Hela has developed a second body of work consisting of expressive flower paintings in oil pastel. Influenced by nature, these works embrace a more organic and intuitive approach. For Hela, flowers symbolize the beauty of impermanence ,their short-lived bloom serving as a gentle reminder to slow down, remain present, and cherish the fleeting moments of everyday life.
