Description
A game scene is set in a minimalist setting. Two figures confront each other around a dark table. Their gazes meet with silent intensity. The features are marked by sharp black lines. The faces have deliberately distorted proportions.
The card game becomes the center of gravity of the composition. The hands manipulate the cards with a certain rigidity. On the left, a man with a fixed gaze watches his opponent. On the right, a woman with red hair adopts a pensive posture.
The color palette plays on stark contrasts. The deep blue of the clothing opposes the flesh tones and the bright red. A striped light fixture hangs above the scene, bringing a geometric structure to the space.
The treatment of the painting reveals rich textures. The color blocks are worked with precision. Accessories, such as a patterned bag and a red bag, frame the scene. The whole captures a moment of psychological tension. The detail of the cards revealed in the foreground concludes this face-to-face.
Presentation
Patricia Simsa is a French painter, born in Paris in 1961.
Patricia Simsa is a multidisciplinary artst and doesn't focus her research on only one medium, initially she began with sculpture and then turned towards painting.
Her wild and joyful paintings are an invitation to enter her world filled with humor and love. Her favorite motif is women, or the image of the woman. Patricia Simsa's works intrigue, amuse, and manage to create complicity between the spectator and the characters.
She uses bright colours with thick strokes, the outcome is very poetic and highlights precision and harmony in her work, who leaves nothing to chance.
Patricia Simsa is a self-taught artist. Her first personal exhibition was in 1992 and she has done several since in Europe.
