Bernard Saint-Maxent - The color Muse (2026)
The icon was not born famous…it was created by art.
With “Pop Diva", Bernard Saint-Maxent invites us behind the scenes of creation. His famous character does not contemplate an icon: he is in the process of giving it life.
Perched on a ladder, brush in hand, he applies the final touches of color to a face that has become emblematic. The pink glasses, the radiant hair, the bright red lips, and the background with circular patterns recall the energy of 1960s Pop Art while fitting into a resolutely contemporary writing.
The sculpture seems to emerge from the frame. The paint pots placed in the foreground, the streaks of color, and the reliefs create a real three-dimensional scene, as if the artist had just left his studio a few moments before.
At the crossroads of sculpture, painting, and installation, “Pop Diva" celebrates the birth of an icon and pays tribute to the ability of art to transform an image into emotion.
Before the flashes, there was a brush
The world only retains legends.
No one remembers the one who gave them their colors.
In this work, Bernard Saint-Maxent imagines this suspended moment.
An artist slowly climbs his ladder.
He is not painting a portrait.
He is revealing a personality.
With each brushstroke, the hair gains light.
The glasses become bolder.
The lips come alive.
The icon appears little by little before our eyes.
The paint pots are still open.
The colors seem fresh.
The work may not be finished…
Because a true work of art never ceases to evolve in the gaze of the one who contemplates it.
“Pop Diva" reminds us that behind every mythical image lies a creator, an emotion, and that magical moment where everything begins.
