Intention note — Drisme-4
"Drisme-4" belongs to the eponymous series AERO 82, one of the current expressions of his approach on canvas. The term "Drisme" is a construction specific to the artist: a contraction of graphic forms that resist unequivocal definition, it is situated between the letter and the symbol, between geometric abstraction and organic form.
Starting from an essentialist heritage close to Mondrian — structured composition, rigor of the planes —, AERO 82 progressively enriches his plastic vocabulary by complicating the intertwining of his outlines. The spaces delimited by the contours are filled with selective colors evoking stained glass — a reference both popular and sacred, consistent with the ritual dimension that Graffiti has maintained with urban space forever.
Color as structure
In "Drisme-4", color is not a filling: it is a structure. Each space delimited by the outlines is a chromatic decision that defines the energy of the composition. The bright colors, placed in full field, create visual tensions that make the surface vibrate — a phenomenon that Josef Albers theorized in his "Homage to the Square": color is never absolute, it is always relative to its neighbors.
This awareness of chromatic relativity is expressed in the care taken with the color relationships between adjacent spaces. Each colored zone is thought in relation to its neighbors, creating harmonies or contrasts that guide the eye through the composition.
Shadow as pictorial dimension
The effect of cast shadow — a direct heritage from the tradition of Graffiti — reappears here to give the composition its volume and depth by becoming an element tending towards abstraction. In the practice of Graffiti, shadow is a narrative tool: it tells the light, it locates the forms in space, it gives the illusion of three-dimensionality to what is fundamentally flat.
Transposed onto the canvas, this technique acquires a new meaning: it no longer simulates the reality of lettering detaching from the wall, but it becomes an autonomous pictorial element, a vector of visual energy. In AERO 82's work, cast shadow is a pictorial writing in itself.
Formal analysis
The 20 × 40 cm format imposes its own horizontal reading logic. The composition is structured to guide the eye from left to right or from right to left, each element calling for the next in a fluid progression. The white background contrasts deliberately little with the light beige outlines but nevertheless ensures the legibility of the forms through the partial fill colors.
