While the Fruits Still Hold to the Branch, 2025

Kateryna Kolesnykova

In the painting, two figures — two presences — merge into a single quiet breath.
The woman behind gently embraces the other, her hands resting on her shoulders and chest — not to hold her back, but to support her. It is a touch that speaks a language calmer than words. Their eyes are closed; both are turned inward, attentive to what moves within and between them, rather than to the world around.
Behind their backs stretch the branches of a tree heavy with fruit. They seem suspended in the air, held in a moment of ripeness, not yet falling. It is a symbol of an endless cycle: what has matured does not always have to depart. Sometimes it simply remains nearby — like memory, like tenderness, like a bond.
The figures wear dresses in closely related shades — red, warm, earthy. They resonate with one another like two variations of the same feeling.
The entire scene speaks of trust — of how one person can become a quiet support for another without words, without effort.
These are embraces in which no drama unfolds — only gentle support, acceptance, and care.
