Description
The artist appropriates the codes of Pop Art to redefine popular iconography. This portrait is built on a set of striking contrasts. A saturated pink background attracts the eye. The face emerges then through a methodical accumulation of white dots.
This technique creates a double visual reading. Up close, the composition seems abstract. With a step back, the subject's features are drawn with precision. The gaze and posture then assert themselves with clarity.
The execution mixes acrylic and spray paint. This technical blend links studio art to the aesthetic of Street Art. Each dot acts as an organic pixel. The geometric repetition structures the space and brings a graphic depth to the whole.
The work plays on perception and optics. It transforms a known figure into a chromatic exploration. The composition ends with a precise treatment of shadows and lights, revealing the details of the face on a monochrome background.
Presentation
Since 2018, Warren Podguszer, known under the pseudonym Wawapod, has immersed himself in the world of Pop Art and Street Art in Paris, developing a unique style that fuses geometry and popular iconography. His work is distinguished by the reuse of emblematic icons through accumulations of dots, paying homage to the history of art and to popular figures he admires.
In addition to its studio work, Wawapod intervenes in public spaces, notably by writing its message "hello love always" on city sidewalks, thus adding a touch of poetry and optimism to the urban environment.
One of the most fascinating aspects of his work lies in the creation of double readings. By superimposing images within the dots, he allows his works to reveal an initial abstract image that becomes figurative with distance. This visual game engages the viewer, pushing them to explore and discover different dimensions of the work.
Self-taught, Wawapod has built his own artistic path, developing a personal and innovative visual language through his painting. His journey is marked by a constant quest for expression and creativity, inviting the public to a rich and interactive visual experience.
