Description
A Manhattan street drowned in magenta. This version of the series pushes the chromatic bias to its extreme: the city is no longer painted in its colors, but in one color—an electric, saturated, almost aggressive fuchsia, that engulfs the facades, the sky, and the ground.
The construction remains of perfect rigor. Two fronts of buildings narrow in perspective towards a white sky void in the center, a narrow vertical of cold light that pierces the ambient incandescence. To the left, a building treated in slate gray and black brings the necessary dark counterpoint; to the right, the pink mass extends until it plunges into a deep black at the edge of the canvas. The painter thus organizes his space into three zones: the cold, the warm, the shadow.
Oblique lines traverse the composition in beams—cornices, awnings, canopies—drawn with a quick gesture in gray, beige, and black. They structure the depth with the efficiency of an architect's sketch, while introducing a diagonal dynamic that contradicts the frontality of the scene.
At the heart of the painting, the traffic. A yellow taxi, brilliant against the pink background, precedes a line of gray and white vehicles that recedes into the distance. A few touches of bright orange and yellow signal the lights and signs. These warm accents, minuscule in scale to the canvas, are enough to bring the scene to life.
The lower half belongs to the reflection. The wet road reflects everything in long vertical streaks: the pinks of the facades, the black silhouettes of passersby, the yellow streaks of the headlights descending in liquid stripes to the bottom edge. A clear diagonal bars the foreground on the left, like a streak of light thrown across the image.
The gesture is apparent everywhere: broad brushstrokes, scrapes that let the weave of the canvas breathe, bold impasto, assumed drips. To the right, silhouettes of pedestrians are glimpsed, reduced to simple dark spots—the crowd without faces.
From afar, a New York street in the rain, perfectly identifiable. Up close, an abstract field of fuchsia and black verticals. This oscillation is the mark of Adam Wajerczyk: he does not paint what the city is, but the impression it leaves.
Presentation
Polish painter of great talent residing in Kujawsko-Pomorskie.
Self-taught, born in 1975, his works arouse such enthusiasm that they are sold without his needing to hold exhibitions. After a deserved success in his country, he tackles the Western market by entering the best European galleries.
It should quickly be listed in all the Art rating guides.
