Description

"La mesa está servida" (The Table Is Served) is an ambitious canvas by Mimi Ripoll (2013) that orchestrates an eclectic postmodern deconstruction of the classical Baroque still life.

The composition thrives on a profound conceptual friction between visceral organic decay and synthetic abstraction. At the table's foreground lies an opulent feast rendered with dramatic figurative realism—glistening lobsters, crabs, squid, a pig's head, and a slaughtered white heron, evoking the traditional Flemish and Spanish . This historical narrative is radically disrupted by elements of pop-surrealism: an inflatable yellow duck, grotesque green biomorphic forms, a levitating eyeball, and disembodied hands, shifting the scene into an uncanny, dreamlike banquet.

The background introduces a rigorous counterpoint rooted in Op-Art and Memphis Group design. Contrasting vertical stripes, distorted monochrome cones, sharp geometric arrows, and saturated color planes dismantle the illusion of depth, colliding with the textured flesh below. stands as a sharp critique of hyper-consumerism, exploring the tension between organic mortality, synthetic artificiality, and the ongoing dialogue between classical art history and contemporary visual language.

Presentation

Mimi Ripoll is an Argentine visual artist and sculptor based in Andalusia, Spain. Formed at the prestigious in Buenos Aires, her multidisciplinary practice bridges painting, mixed media, ceramic sculpture, and assemblage.

Artistic Language & Materiality: Ripoll's work explores the boundaries between poetic abstraction and stylized figuration. Her canvases and sculptural pieces are distinguished by tactile richness—incorporating natural pigments, handmade papers, textiles, sand, and layered collages that convey the passage of time and geological memory. Her artistic language is influenced by the concrete art of Joaquín Torres García, modernist aesthetics (such as Le Corbusier and Adolf Loos), and the language of constructivism.

Core Themes: Central to her oeuvre are questions of human emotion, female identity, memory, and the spiritual bond between humanity and the earth. Her visual dialogue reflects a rich synthesis of Latin American cultural depth and Mediterranean light.

Exhibitions & Collections: Throughout her career, she has presented solo and group exhibitions across galleries and cultural institutions in Argentina, Spain, and throughout Europe, with works held in numerous private collections internationally
