Light Across the Blue, 2026

Light Across the Blue is an original contemporary abstract seascape by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. Measuring 80 × 120 cm, this large acrylic painting explores the moment when changing light transforms water, shoreline, and atmosphere into an almost abstract landscape.

While creating this work, I was thinking about the brief moment when the sky opens after heavy clouds and light suddenly reaches the surface of the water. Distant forms become softer, reflections appear, and even the darkest areas begin to reveal unexpected color. Rather than depicting a particular coastline, I wanted to capture this fleeting sensation of light moving through a landscape.

The composition develops through broad horizontal passages suggesting distant water, shoreline, and reflection. Pale aqua, soft turquoise, blue-grey, ivory, beige, and misty grey create an airy upper space, while deep navy, charcoal, blue-black, and earthy brown bring depth and intensity to the lower section. Warm ochre and rust accents introduce subtle contrast within the cooler palette.

The surface was developed with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping, and expressive impasto applications. Richly textured areas alternate with softer translucent passages, allowing underlying colors to remain visible and creating a sense of movement and changing light.

Moving between abstract seascape and contemporary landscape abstraction, remains deliberately open to interpretation. It may evoke open water, reflected clouds, a distant shoreline, or simply the emotional experience of light transforming a natural space.
