Description
A solitary figure sits in quiet contemplation. The composition captures a suspended moment of introspection. Thrived on the intersection of bodily performance and mental freedom, the scene evokes a theatrical stillness. The figure rests on a simple chair, gazing toward an open doorway. This portal separates the interior sanctuary from an external, luminous void.
Vivid oil strokes create a tactile surface. Deep blues and bruised purples define the clothing, contrasting with the pale, ethereal skin tones. A striking splash of acidic green illuminates the doorframe, injecting a surge of energy into the muted atmosphere. The brushwork remains expressive and fluid. It emphasizes the weight of the body and the lightness of the thought.
The artist translates her background in physical theatre into a visual language. Every gesture is a silent narrative. The relationship between the character and the surrounding space suggests a state of transition. The artwork explores the fluidity of human emotion through a figurative lens. Light washes over the canvas, blurring the edges of reality. It leaves the viewer to ponder the memories and absences that linger in the room. The scene concludes with the soft, blurred focus of the figure's bare feet against the floor.
Presentation
Sa Hara is a Korean artist born in 1975 who lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She is graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration at Dongguk University. Through Physical Theatre, the artist explores how characters reflect one another, expressing freedom and imagination through bodily performance. With a keen interest in the movement of the human body, observations are transformed into unique works that convey the unrestricted freedom of the mind. Each work contains a narrative, featuring characters and networks of relationships. These relationships are not confined by social or legal structures but instead reflect a worldview of relative freedom. Using the non-verbal language of bodily movement, the characters perform as if on stage, reflecting each other, becoming aspects of one another, and giving rise to thoughts and actions, thus existing through each other and forming the whole. The artist draws inspiration from human movement, real-life stories of relationships, fictional novels, and videos on Instagram and YouTube. Plants, books, music, dance, and various forms of art also provide intellectual stimuli, which are combined with imagination to create the works.
