Description
A vibrant exploration of heritage and harmony. This oil painting brings the spirit of Osogbo to life through a structured yet fluid composition. Bold impasto techniques create a tactile surface. Thick paint adds physical depth to every shape. The artist balances deep blues and regal purples against flashes of golden yellow.
Geometric divisions organize the canvas into rhythmic segments. Red U-shaped motifs anchor the visual flow. These symbols suggest a musical cadence. They evoke the resonance of traditional drums. Floral hints emerge from the abstraction. They soften the rigid lines with organic grace.
The layering of color reveals a sophisticated understanding of contrast. Light plays across the textured ridges. This creates a dynamic energy that shifts with the viewer's perspective. The artwork serves as a bridge between ancestral tradition and modern abstraction. It captures a sense of equilibrium and spiritual poise. The piece concludes with delicate orange accents scattered across a deep indigo base.
Presentation
Babatunde Azeez Oyeyemi, born in 1995 and raised in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, is a visual artist with deep roots in the Osogbo art tradition. He comes from a family of artists. His father, Isiaka Azeez, is a renowned traditional Osogbo artist, and his brother, Abiodun Azeez, is a prolific painter in the Nigerian art scene. Babatunde studied Painting at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he earned his Higher National Diploma (HND) and continued to build on his creative foundation.
Babatunde works as a studio artist, constantly experimenting with color, line, form, and shape to create engaging compositions. He mostly uses oil on canvas, applying the impasto technique to give his work texture and depth. While his style is still evolving, his art reflects a genuine passion for storytelling, culture, and emotional expression. He believe his journey is still unfolding and that's part of what makes his work so interesting.
