Description
Watercolor unfolds here with controlled lightness. A fluid and rapid stroke draws the silhouette of a woman. She seems to emerge from an abstract background composed of purple and magenta hues.
The brush suggests the forms without ever confining them. The body is enveloped in shades of sand and ocher. Touches of gold leaf come to illuminate the composition. They bring a precious light to the bust and the face.
The artist favors suggestion rather than precision. The gaze is serene. The posture evokes maternal tenderness or calm introspection. The use of water creates delicate transparencies.
This composition is within an impressionistic approach. It explores the sensitivity of the portrait through a play of colored contrasts. The gold leaf outlines the contours with finesse. The whole rests on an immaculate white background which accentuates the luminosity of the pigments.
Presentation
An English teacher by profession, Paris-based Isabelle Hirtzig began her career as an artist through the medium of watercolor. Through her light touch of the paintbrush, she is able to capture much emotive feeling. Her work depicts scenes based on subjects as diverse as flowers, Parisian scenes, landscapes, animals and portraiture. Her focus remains on the psyche and art—its sensuality and softness are perfectly accentuated through the watercolor medium.
