Description
No colour. No constructed background. For the first time, BBB lets the white breathe — and it is that white that carries the work. Between the profile and the raised hand, a wide emptiness occupies the centre of the piece. It is not an absence: it is what gives the gesture its suspension, the gaze its distance, the silence its weight. A thought in the act of forming, caught just before the words.
From a distance, the portrait is there, immediate. The balding head, the round glasses, the grey beard, the black turtleneck: the most recognisable silhouette in contemporary technology culture, that of a man who spent his life making complexity fit into simple forms. Up close, the drawing dissolves. The face is nothing but an accumulation — off-whites, ivories, pearl greys, charcoals, deep blacks — where each brick works like a brushstroke. The glasses emerge from a build-up of dark pieces; the beard is a weave of greys shifting in density from row to row; the turtleneck is a black mass with almost no relief, offering the eye nothing to hold on to but a few scattered highlights.
Black and white is not an impoverishment, it is a constraint taken on deliberately. Deprived of colour, BBB works with value alone: light, shadow, and the passage from one to the other. On a palette reduced to a few dozen shades of brick, every choice counts twice over — one grey too light, and the cheek falls flat; one black in the wrong place, and the gaze is lost. It is the most demanding exercise in the series.
Not a single brick was laid to a plan. Every element was chosen by hand, from a stock of second-hand LEGO® bricks arriving loose from all over France and sorted one by one — part of it coming from solidarity-based reuse through the Rejoué association. Pieces with no story, given one back. There is a particular rightness in seeing the man who reinvented the industrial object rebuilt entirely from second-hand ones.
No print, no reproduction, no artificial intelligence. A work that was built, numbered, and delivered with its certificate of authenticity and signed on the back.

Gregory, aka BBB, doesn't paint: he builds. Brick by brick, pixel by pixel, he assembles art with patience, precision... and a certain playfulness.
Trained in interior architecture and technical drawing, he diverts LEGO – a universal, almost childlike material – to create a unique, vibrant, unexpected visual language.
His works combine technical rigor, subtle narrative, and nods to pop culture. From afar, a familiar image. Up close, a complex world. What he creates are slow surprises. Each painting reveals itself in two stages: first the obvious, then the strangeness, the detail, the hidden emotion.
It's an art of patience and pixels, a meticulous construction game that thwarts our perception. BBB revisits icons of contemporary visual culture—mythical characters, musical figures, popular heroes—and slips into them his own grammar, made of rhythm, silence, and graphic tension. He doesn't play with LEGO. He plays with complexity. With our gaze. With the pleasure of revealing the unexpected.
