Boba red - Lego, 2023

BrickBoardBuilder

From a distance, the obvious: Boba Fett's helmet, visor split open, standing out against a burning red field. An icon any fan recognises in a fraction of a second. Up close, it all comes apart. The red is no longer a colour but a relief — dozens of shades of LEGO® bricks, plates, tiles and technical elements, each catching the light differently depending on the hour and the angle of your gaze.

The T-shaped visor and the cheeks of the helmet are handled like weathered paint: greys, off-whites, ochres, yellows and oranges blend to bring out the scrapes, the blast marks and the scars of a Mandalorian armour that has been through Tatooine, the Great Pit of Carkoon and forty years of mythology. The deep black on the right-hand side doesn't swallow the image, it hollows it out — you have to step closer to find the hidden pieces, the touches of pink, the small stars and the details the eye only catches on a second look.

Not a single brick was laid to a plan. Every element was chosen by hand, from a stock of second-hand LEGO® bricks arriving loose from all over France and sorted one by one — part of it coming from solidarity-based reuse through the Rejoué association. Pieces with no story, given one back. It is this refusal of the blueprint that gives the work its grain, its irregularity and its identity: it can never be built the same way twice.

No print, no reproduction, no artificial intelligence. A work that was built, numbered, and delivered with its certificate of authenticity, framed and signed on the back.
