Description
Here, nothing is filled in. Black takes up everything, and the car exists only through what grazes it: the edge of a roof, the crease of a bonnet, the grille of the rear louvres, the thin line of a bumper. BBB doesn't build the DeLorean, he builds its light — the light that slides across brushed steel when the machine is standing still, in the dark, just before.
From a distance, the eye closes the drawing on its own and the silhouette appears, immediate, recognisable among thousands. Up close, the line reveals itself for what it is: hundreds of LEGO® bricks in white, grey, silver and charcoal, stacked, offset, overlapped, wavering from one row to the next. It is a line drawn by hand, with jolts and hesitations, and it is precisely that waver that gives the bodywork its metallic grain.
Then there is the colour, held in reserve until the final third. The rear lights catch fire — deep reds, scarlets, oranges, yellows — and that sudden heat is the only event in the piece. It is enough. In the bottom left, the embers break loose and run off the edge of the frame, like a mark left on the asphalt.
Quietly, halfway up, two dates can be read in the black: 1985 – 2025. Forty years. That is all the work says, and there is nothing to add.
Not a single brick was laid to a plan. Every element was chosen by hand, from a stock of second-hand LEGO® bricks arriving loose from all over France and sorted one by one — part of it coming from solidarity-based reuse through the Rejoué association. Pieces with no story, given one back. Against a background this bare, the slightest irregularity shows: this work can never be built the same way twice.
No print, no reproduction, no artificial intelligence. A work that was built, numbered, and delivered with its certificate of authenticity, framed and signed on the back.
Presentation
The art of pixel pop.
“I deal with the constraints of brick as others deal with painting."
Gregory, aka BBB, doesn't paint: he builds. Brick by brick, pixel by pixel, he assembles art with patience, precision... and a certain playfulness.
Trained in interior architecture and technical drawing, he diverts LEGO – a universal, almost childlike material – to create a unique, vibrant, unexpected visual language.
His works combine technical rigor, subtle narrative, and nods to pop culture. From afar, a familiar image. Up close, a complex world. What he creates are slow surprises. Each painting reveals itself in two stages: first the obvious, then the strangeness, the detail, the hidden emotion.
It's an art of patience and pixels, a meticulous construction game that thwarts our perception. BBB revisits icons of contemporary visual culture—mythical characters, musical figures, popular heroes—and slips into them his own grammar, made of rhythm, silence, and graphic tension. He doesn't play with LEGO. He plays with complexity. With our gaze. With the pleasure of revealing the unexpected.
