Evening sharms, 2023

Galya Symchych

"Magic of Eventide" is an exquisite mountain landscape by contemporary Ukrainian artist Galya Symchych, created in 2023 as part of her "Landscape" series. Painted in oils on a 60x60 cm canvas, the work showcases the artist's signature style, which blends elements of Cubism, geometry, and "crystalline Impressionism." The focal point—both in terms of light and composition—is the left section of the sky, where the setting sun breaks through the clouds. Brushstrokes radiate outward from this source, creating a powerful sense of dynamic movement; the rays seem to fan out, filling the entire expanse above the mountains. A slender strip of water runs across the lower third of the painting, softly reflecting the sky's warm, golden-pink glow.

The right side of the composition is occupied by the massive, dark silhouettes of mountain peaks and clouds. Their angular geometry appears monumental, creating a static counterpoint to the dynamic sky. The painting's color palette is built upon a refined contrast between warm and cool tones. The title of the canvas perfectly captures its emotional mood. "The Magic of Eventide" embodies the suspended enchantment of the evening. Despite the sharp angles and jagged lines, the work radiates deep tranquility, harmony, and stillness. The artist's geometric strokes do not disrupt nature; rather, they give structure to its chaos, highlighting the order, grandeur, and fragile beauty of the world around us.
