Driving day 2, 2024

Galya Symchych

This is a dynamic, light-filled watercolor painting that captures—from a bird's-eye view—an energetic summer water activity: water-skiing. The composition is arranged diagonally, maximizing the sense of speed and movement. In the upper right, a white motorboat is depicted swiftly cutting across the water's surface; the silhouette of a person is visible at the helm. The boat leaves behind a powerful, sweeping wake of white foam and waves. Two large arcs of turbulent water divide the canvas, creating a strong visual perspective and drawing the eye toward the bottom of the painting.

In the bottom-left corner, at the very end of a taut tow rope, an athlete on a board or water skis is captured in action. The person is leaning into a sharp turn, kicking up a spray of water all around. The image radiates incredible energy, freshness, and excitement. The combination of bright sunlight—discernible through the translucent turquoise water—and the dynamic movement of the boat creates a vivid atmosphere of a hot summer day, adventure, and freedom.
