Description
This figurative painting is part of a classical tradition where the precision of the line meets a muted atmosphere.
The scene depicts a group of swimmers immersed in water with cool tones.
A woman in the center draws the eye. Her body stretches towards the sky while she naturally manipulates her hair.
Beside her, silhouettes intertwine in a play of glances and subtle gestures.
The execution is smooth. The rendering is refined, almost sculptural.
The low and dark sky crushes the composition, reinforcing the feeling of intimacy and silence.
The palette focuses on sober tones. Deep blues and grays dominate the space.
The artist uses a mastered technique here to capture the moment with formal rigor.
The contrast between the light skin of the figures and the darkness of the firmament creates a subtle visual tension.
Every detail, from the movement of the hair to the splash of the water, is treated with great technical accuracy.
Presentation
Thomas Groslier was born in Amiens in 1957.
In 1976, he entered the Beaux-Arts of Valence.
During his training years, he was interested in the works of Delvaux, Gromaire, Balthus, De Chirico, Van Gogh and Fragonard.
Starting in 1983, he develops a figurative work drawing from classicism. His subjects are multiple: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes.
His painting is characterized by a smooth and precise execution, as well as a generally restricted palette, dominated by blues, grays, and greens.
The artist favors small formats, more intimate ones, and develops different techniques. He works mainly with oil and tempera, on canvas, wood or cardboard, supports most often prepared by himself.
Since 1983, his work has been exhibited in different venues, galleries, and museums.
