Description
A powerful composition of hard contrasts.
Three dominant color areas define the space. A light yellow field meets a deep black. An intense red area slides in between into the image. The geometric rigor creates an immediate tension. The colors stand in a harsh dialogue.
The work omits figurative details. It concentrates on the essential. The haptic quality of the color is palpable. Fine brushstrokes soften the large areas. They lend depth and liveliness to the surface. An architecture of light and shadow is created.
The diagonal division skillfully leads the eye through the picture. The red area acts like a foundation or a sharp horizon.
The balance between emptiness and mass is maintained. The interplay between calm and dynamism fascinates the viewer. It is a study of the effect of pure pigments. A play with spatial perception. The edges are precisely set and divide the surface into clear segments. The texture of the canvas subtly shines through the color layers in some places.
The work is delivered on a stable standard wooden stretcher frame. The sides are painted so that no additional frame is required.
The painting is ready to hang.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
